What Is An Air Purifier?
An air purifier is a machine that cleans air. It does this by removing particles from incoming air, retaining these particles and pumping out air that has been cleaned of these particles. The perceived need for such machines has grown from the knowledge that many pollutants reside within the confine of the home, and with the emergence of allergies such as asthma, and better understanding of their causes, the removal of air bound pollutants has been seen as a way to help allergy sufferers within the home.
Air purifiers are not restricted in their ability to remove allergens such as pollen from the air. They are also able to remove smoke, smells and bacteria. So if you or your family suffer from any type of air bound allergy, an air purifier could have a profound effect.
There are a number of methods employed by air cleaners to remove allergens and particles from the surrounding air. One method used is to pass the contaminated air over a substance like charcoal which can absorb the pollutants. The air emerging from the charcoal will have been cleaned. Another method is to us ultra violet (UV) light in conjunction with a germicide to kill off any unpleasant particles. Another method is to use electrostatic charges to ionise the air. These work by emitting charged ions into the incoming air, which neutralise the charge of the ions already in the air. This reaction causes the pollutants to fall out of the air to be collected by the purifier.
One such machine is known as Ionic Breeze, and works on the basis of charging ions to cause offending particles to fall out of the air ready for collection. There are several models available, some of which have UV filtering and germicidal protection.
There is another side to the clean air coin. Some areas of the world suffer from extremes of temperature and extremes of humidity. Wild fluctuations in air temperature of humidity can have extreme effects on your living environment, such as effecting your furniture, belongings and your health . In these situations, the method used to control the air in your home could be better suited by a Humidifier (to increase the humidity of your home in particularly dry conditions) or a dehumidifier, to reduce the water content of air in extreme hot and moist conditions.
